My Role: For this project I not only took on the roles of a civil rights blogger and writer, but also the extra role of a slam master. After I wrote my civil rights slam, I helped out other students who needed critique, help, or just someone to memorize lines with.
project description:
In humanities, we learned about stressful time periods and how people handled the stress of it at that time. My partner and I leaned about Frida Kahlo and how stress effected her. Growing up, she suffered from polio in one of her legs and eventually had them amputated. At a fairly young age, she was in a serious bus accident and had a metal pole speared through her. In recovery, she found her passion: art. We also learned about civil rights and how the african american community was being treated less superior to other communities. I really enjoyed painting the civil rights mural where we painted our historical heroes (ex: Frida Kahlo). I also enjoyed learning so much about the civil rights era and how people where fighting for their rights and never gave up. This project really connected to the real world because these things really did happened and are a part of history. Below are some pictures of my exhibition night and concepts we covered.
