My emotional short story:
The purpose of this writing assignment was to learn how to focus on one moment in time and elaborate on a short time period. We could only write two pages and it was due that week. Some skills I learned where to manage my time and making sure everything was in the same verb tense.I also learned to "show, not tell" which means if your character is sad, don't say sad, but describe sad.
The activity that really helped me with writing my story was the "the magic if" lesson. In this exercise, you have to in vision an object and make the class believe that something was there. But in order to to do this, you had to believe it was there and describe it with your 5 senses. A specific revision that caught my eye was in my first draft when I said,"The thunder was loud when I woke up" and then in my final draft I said, "I woke up today with the harsh sounds of thunder laughing at me." This made my writing more descriptive and pained a picture for the reader.
